For the last 10 years, ChemScrapes.net has been run from a Wix site. On this site I avoided the use of templates and put together my own design. The site is visited by about 200 people per month, and it was meant to be a central place to make announcements, advertise projects and share stories behind ChemScrapes.
Today I got an email from Wix stating that the cost of my subscription would go up by US$40 per year bringing the subscription up to SG$240 per year. Simply not worth it. So, I have started the process to move over to WordPress for a new beginning.
Ten years ago I had more time to play around with site design, updating the blog, and designing pages to share projects. Now I am busier. Busier as a parent, busier at work, busier with ensuring I age healthily. There is barely time to draw, let alone build a site from scratch.
So, I am settling on a template. This means the things that made ChemScrapes.net quite distinctive will probably take a while to appear on the new site. The specially created font for one….the massive red “S” too. In settling for a template that loses a lot of the ChemScrapes “scrappiness” it is not really that I have settled – it is that I demand more of myself in other walks of life.
A few things I can promise – the cartoons will be as bad as ever; the posts will continue to be quite dull and self indulgent (as usual); the SciArt will continue to challenge my drawing ability; I will continue to updates about projects, merch etc. In short, the look will be very WordPress for now, but the feel will be undeniably @ChemScrapes!
